How to add and format an image in Wordpress
Main / Westslope Design Blog

Westslope Design often uses Wordpress as a blogging and simple content management tool. We have had a couple questions about placing images in posts or pages. Here is a tutorial on the basics.

1.  Format your file in your favorite image editor (Photoshop, Fireworks, etc.) to the dimensions you want.  Save it as a .gif or .jpeg.
2.  Log into Wordpress and either write or edit a post or page.
3.  Browse for your image.Wordpress Image
4.  Give your image an accurate and descriptive title.
5.  Give your image an accurate, descriptive, and succinct description.
6.  Upload your image.
7.   Select “Thumbnail,” “Full size,” or “Title.”  Most often you will want to select “Full size.”  A title just shows the title of the image and links to the file.
8.  Select a link to category.  I usually do not link to anything, as I just want the image in the page.  Wordpress editor
9.  Click “Send to editor.”  You want to have your cursor where you would like to have the image in the page.
10.  Click on your image.
11.  Click the “insert/edit image” button (the little tree on the top of the editing bar).
12.  A window will open.  Click on the alignment.  You can align the image to the left, right, or many other options.  Usually you can either leave this alone so there is no text to the left or right of the image or select an alignment to have the test wrap around your image.Wordpress Image Editor
13.  You can set your image to new dimensions, but I recommend doing that in your image editor before uploading.  This will allow the image to load faster.
14.  You can give your image a border if you want or set it to “0.”
15 & 16.  This is the vertical and horizontal space around the image.
17.  Click “Insert.”

At this point the image is in Wordpress and done!
